CHIHUAHUA SIZE CATEGORY

So many people will call looking for "teacups" or "toy" Chihuahuas. As an honest breeder I must inform the public of these unofficial terms. The fancy word "teacup" is often misused.People are lead to believe that a "teacup" 1 or 2lb Chihuahua puppy will stay this size forever and that it wont grow. The truth is that a Chihuahua puppy will reach mature weight around 18 months of age.So be careful with breeders advertising "Teacups"and promising size. If you want a very tiny Chihuahua that is guaranteed to stay tiny I suggest purchasing an older Chi close to adult age because we can only estimate using charts and analyzing the puppies line. Normally, a puppy weighing 1 pound after 6months will more than likely be very small. Our Bijou Mini was 2lbs after 6 months and kept growing, but I remember his growth slowing down after this age. He is an adult and still is in my opinion very small. All Chihuahuas are considered "Toy dogs" and according to dog kennel clubs a Chihuahua should weigh no more than 6lbs.It's very important not to compromise a dogs health or quality of life to satisfy our obsessions.
